This concert features Arnold Schoenberg’s haunting tone poem on the theme of redemption and forgiveness, “Verklärte Nacht.” Remember Downton Abbey’s Mr. Carson singing a snippet of “Dashing Away”? Come hear the rest of it as part of John Rutter’s English folktune inspired “Suite for Strings,” followed by two other charming folksong based pieces, Johann Svendsen’s “Norwegian Folksong” and Vasily Kalinnikov’s “Serenade.” The final piece on the program – Juan Bautista Plaza’s lively “Fuga Criolla” – brings an old form new life.
