Welcome to New Spire Arts 2018 Summer Camp offerings! All camps are one week long with the exception of the Olney Theatre Center Camp, which is two weeks. There are a variety of full- and half-day camps to choose from all summer long!

Payment Options:

When registering for summer camps, there are now two ways to pay!

Option 1: Pay a 25% non-refundable deposit on the full camp fee when you register to secure a spot in a New Spire Arts Summer Camp program. New Spire Arts will invoice you for the remainder of the payment via PayPal on May 1st, 2018. The deposit is non-refundable, even if you choose to cancel your registration. If the final payment is not received by May 7th, 2018, New Spire Arts reserves to the right to cancel any unpaid registrants with no return of fees. Please note that if you choose the deposit option, you are not eligible for any early bird discounts. Please contact us if you have any questions about the deposit payment option.

Option 2: Pay the camp fee in full. If you have one, you can apply a discount code to receive a percentage off your registration fee. Discounts do not apply to YMCA camps.

Before & After Care:

When registering, you can add before and/or after care for the week to your cart. Morning half-day camps are only eligible for before care and afternoon half-day camps are only eligible for after care.
Before Care: 8:00am to 9:00am, $25 per child per week
After Care: 3:30pm to 5:00pm, $50 per child per week

Registering:

Once you have added your desired camps to your cart, you will be asked for your contact information. Please note that you will need to complete the New Spire Arts registration forms for your registration to be complete. If you registered for camp prior to June 1 and did not fill out PDF forms, we will be contacting you with a link to the registration form. If you register after June 1, your order confirmation email will include a link to the registration form. If you need us to resend this link, please contact us.

Superstar Dance Camp

Superstar Dance Camp

  • June 25th -June 29th, 9:00am – 3:30pm
  • $225
  • Hip Hop specialist and competitive dance coach Paige Friedeman will bring out your child’s inner superstar! Combining arts & crafts with dance, your child will explore their unique personalities and discover their talents that make them a superstar. This workshop ends with a small star-studded performance.

Little Music Makers Camp

Little Music Makers

  • Rising K-2nd Graders
  • July 9th – July 13th, 9:00am – 12:00pm
  • $100
  • Your child will explore the skills of singers and violinists in our Little Music Makers Camp. In this half-day camp, campers will receive instruction from the staff of Frederick Children’s Chorus and Maryland Talent. Campers will learn how to hold and play a violin, as well as engage in singing with an emphasis on melodic and harmonic pitch matching and rhythmic movement. Your child will learn music basics while having fun and playing with friends! For a full day of camp, combine this camp with Puppetry Camp in the afternoon.

Puppetry Camp

Puppetry Camp

  • Rising K-2nd Graders
  • July 9th – July 13th, 12:30pm – 3:30pm
  • $100
  • Master puppet builder and performer Chris Heady will take your child on an immersive, week-long puppet adventure! Campers will have the opportunity to write, create, and perform their own world-class puppet shows based on children’s books. The week will end with a small puppet performance designed and performed by the campers!

Frederick Children's Chorus Camp

Frederick Children’s Chorus Camp

  • Rising 3rd-8th Graders
  • July 16th – July 20th, 9:00am – 3:30pm
  • $225
  • Skyscrapers, bridges, and buses, oh my! And singing, too! The Frederick Children’s Chorus staff provides a week of daily instruction in singing and music. Elements of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) lead children to explore great cities, cultures, architecture, and transportation. Campers will play games, sing together, play instruments, and make new friends. Your child will learn engineering and architecture skills while designing and building models of skyscrapers, parks, zoos, and more! A full week of fun and engagement will have your campers smiling and laughing. Did we mention Thursday is WATER day? Campers will explore how music and water combine for beautiful results. The week culminates with a concert for family and friends. Campers will be invited to sing the National Anthem at a Frederick Keys game in early August. Campers must be 8 years old by June 1. There is a $10 materials fee due on the first day of class. Fee can be paid by cash or check made out to Frederick Children’s Chorus.

Superhero Dance Camp

Superhero Dance Camp 

  • Rising K-3rd Graders
  • July 23rd – July 27th, 9:00am – 3:30pm
  • $225
  • Save the day with this heroic dance camp! Campers will learn fun superhero-themed dances, make up their own characters, play games and create arts & crafts. Superhero dress-up is encouraged! This camp will end with a small performance featuring our heroes showing off their super dance moves!

Shakespeare the Death Scenes Camp

Shakespeare the Death Scenes Camp

  • July 23rd – July 27th, 9:00am – 3:30pm
  • $225
  • Professional fight choreographer Ryan Leach will teach your middle schooler the bloody art of recreating Shakespeare’s death scenes! Campers will learn the basics of armed and unarmed stage combat. SFX makeup lessons will teach participants how to add the little bit of gore needed to really sell the scene. Campers will end the week with a short performance showcasing their new professional fighting and gory makeup skills.

YMCA Music Video Camp

YMCA Music Video Camp

  • Rising 6th-8th Graders
  • July 30th – August 3rd, 9:00am – 3:30pm
  • $280 for YMCA household members, $310 for nonmembers
  • Music videos are an exciting medium full of stylistic, expressive, and evocative possibilities for both aspiring and professional directors who want to play beyond the conventions of narrative filmmaking. With this in mind, New Spire Arts has designed a unique summer camp taught by musical theatre expert Nicole Ruark and filmmaker Sam Tressler of Area 31. Campers will have the opportunity to sing, dance, film, and edit an original music video! The curriculum is designed for campers with little or no experience in making music videos.

  • August 6th – August 10th, 9:00am – 3:30pm
  • $225
  • Get ready for your child to take their place in the center ring at the New Spire Arts Circus Camp! Camp days will be dedicated to physical warmups, acrobatic exercises, theater games, juggling, gymnastics, clowing, tightrope walking, and other circus skills. Circus teaches the benefits of hard work, self reliance, and physical conditioning which is useful for dancers, gymnasts, and sports enthusiasts of all kinds. It’s also a ton of FUN!

Maryland School for the Deaf Performing Arts Camp

Maryland School for the Deaf Performing Arts Camp

  • Rising 6th-8th Graders
  • August 6th – August 10th, 12:30pm – 3:30pm
  • $100
  • This performing arts camp is open to all rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Deaf students. Campers will dance and play games as they prepare for a performance for Downtown Frederick’s In The Streets Festival this fall! MSD Performing Arts camp is taught by Adrienne King. Ms. King specializes in arts integration and programs for the Deaf/CODA community and has ample experience creating programming for all abilities. All classes will be taught in ASL.

  • $280 for YMCA household members, $310 for nonmembers

Jedi Dance Camp

  • August 20th – August 24th, 9:00am – 3:30pm
  • $225
  • May the force be with your little one as they hone Jedi skills in this dance camp! Jedi boys and girls should be nimble, smart, and coordinated to best master their skills. This camp will help your Jedi learn space-themed dances, play games, and create arts and crafts!

Little Playwrights Camp

Little Playwrights Camp

  • Are your little ones natural storytellers? Do they spend their playtime reenacting their favorite shows and movies? Our Little Playwrights camp will guide your child to write, direct, create, and perform in a play with their friends while playing games and having fun. This camp will end with a Little Playwrights festival!

Olney Theatre Center Summer Stock

Olney Theatre Center Summer Stock

  • OLNEY THEATRE CENTER SUMMER STOCK is a one-of-a-kind theater arts program for rising 4th-6th graders. Campers will work with Olney Theatre Center theater artists daily, taking classes in acting & improvisation, voice & singing, dance & movement, and scene creation. This camp also includes master classes from guest artists and special visits to rehearsals of active OTC productions. At the end of the two-week session, students will perform in a showcase featuring their original scene and musical theater song and dance. Parents and family members are invited!
